Recalling her two-day stay in Britain as part of the March State Visit of her
husband, President Nicholas Sarkozy, Italian-born Carla Bruni tells the
latest edition of Paris Match: "Buckingham (Palace), for me was terribly
frightening and an incredible adventure. It was a rite of passage. It was like
arriving on another planet."
"Never in my life did I think I would meet the Queen of England."
In a fear which was never likely to come to fruition, the former supermodel
also speaks of her trepidation at the concept of letting down her husband and
the French people, explaining: "My God, can you imagine trying not to
disappoint French women — the most elegant in the world. It's not so easy with
such a demanding country."
Whilst she was greeted to Britain with a kiss on the hand from the
Prince of
Wales, Carla herself recalls the lessons in protocol she received
before she was welcomed to Windsor Castle by the Queen and Prince
Philip, saying of the curtsey: "I asked for advice from the
protocol section of the Elysee, but also from the British ambassador's wife. I
tried to imagine how to do it".
Carla admits to having
relaxed in the Queen's
company when Her Majesty personally showed her to the bathroom suite
inside the Windsor Castle apartments which became the temporary
residence of the diminutive President and his wife.
Referring to a photograph which shows herself and her husband with the Windsors, Carla reveals that she now views them as "a real family", saying: "One really feels it when one is with them. And for me it was an absolute honour".
Comment: Yes, it must be surreal to have the Queen of England show you where the bathroom is! Lol! But I think Carla made a huge success of her first visit and her husband had every reason to be proud of his popular wife.
A wise man can appreciate that if his wife is a shining star, the light reflects on him.

Comment: Since the lady was LEFT TO WONDER about her role and place in this event, she obviously did not know nor understand the real reason for this visit.
I'm sure it wasn't a personal matter of her own choosing. Nobody gets invited to Buckingham Palace for the weekend, as a personal matter, unless you're already part of the family.
