Page 2 of 2 Supporting the depiction of the duke as something of an environmental maverick is the sight of Prince Philip driving around in an LPG-powered former taxi cab which he purchased some years ago to replace the Bedford Smith electric van which he used during the 1980s - long before the rest of the wider world became as environmentally-aware as it is today. Says the prince: "It seemed to me that most religions attributed the world to some special creation and I said, 'Well, look if you believe God created the world you ought to take an interest in its well-being."
