It's Kenya 1, Cardiff 0 As William Misses The FA Cup PDF Print E-mail

Prince William of Wales was a no-show this afternoon as Cardiff City football team embarked on their first appearance at the FA Cup Final since 1927.

After a week of speculation (but no official confirmation) as to the weekend plans of the future Prince of Wales, it’s finally been revealed that William is missing both the FA Cup Final – which he usually attends in his role as President of The Football Association – and the wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly as he’s in Kenya.

The prince is attending the Masai-themed wedding of his friend Jecca Craig's brother,
Batian, and his British-born girlfriend Melissa Duveen.

With none of the top four Premiership teams (Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool) taking part, this afternoon’s Cup Final at Wembley is one of the most eagerly awaited of recent times.

However, for the first time in some years there is no royal representation at Wembley Stadium, the teams instead being presented to footballing legend Sir Bobby Robson and other members of an FA delegation.

The lack of any royal personage at Wembley may come back to bite the Royal Family, for as previously noted above this is the first time for decades that a Welsh team have got through to the FA Cup Final.

Prince William took over the role of President of The FA from his Uncle, Prince Andrew. Prior to that, the Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, studiously carried out the role for more than two decades, often appearing at the final with his wife, the Duchess of Kent (Katherine).

The subject of royal support for Welsh teams has previously invoked anger. The sight of Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry, cheering on the English squad during the Six Nations prompted a furious response from Welsh rugby fans.

So the missing Prince William was a guest at another wedding located further "south". But did he take Kate along? Just wondering. I know absolutely nothing about rugby or the Welsh fans.

Glad to hear you're nearly back to your healthy self, Joanne. Sunbonnet
