Anchor's (Not!) Away As William Joins The Navy PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland

Prince William appeared to be having a high time on the not-so-high seas today as he appeared before the press on the second day of his two-month attachment with the Royal Navy.

Mind you, he had every reason to smile when he discovered what his penalty was for having failed to successfully release the training ship’s anchor.

As if there was ever any danger of his fellow students not knowing the identity of the new face in class, Prince William wore an identity tag reading ‘W Wales’ as he made his first public appearance in the uniform of a Sub Lieutenant.

Over two years after he graduated from St. Andrews University in Scotland, and just weeks after he received his Wings following an attachment with the RAF, the prince was once again back in the classroom, putting his hand up to ask a question of his tutor aboard the static training vessel Hindostan.

During his training today, the 25-year-old prince and future Head of The Armed Forces also joined colleagues aboard another vessel, a Picket Boat, on the River Dart.

However, it was during his time aboard Hindostan that the prince discovered he has a lot to learn before he’ll finally be allowed to embark on his tour of duty aboard HMS Iron Duke in the sunny climes of the Caribbean.

When it came time for William to slip (i.e. release) the ship’s anchor, the prince failed in his task.

However, as already reported here earlier today, the prince wouldn't have been too distraught by his lack of success, for in line with Navy tradition he now has to buy the whole crew a crate of beer.

NOTE TO SUBSCRIBERS: Check back in the hours ahead for an exclusive video of Prince William training with the Royal Navy. Sincere thanks again for your support which truly helps keep The Royalist up here. Thank you!

The error was possibly just another excuse to drink beer with his new mates.

Oh I don't know, Jean Sue - I'd have thought the third arm might have helped him with the release of the anchor later on laughing-smiley

William seems to be three-armed in the third picture; perhaps the extra limb got in his way. clown
