Big Ears Reigns At The Palace PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland

It's often been said that life's a fairytale for the Royal Family and so it was perhaps apt that Buckingham Palace played host to a selection of the most famous characters from children's literature.

In what will surely be one of the most magical parties ever, it's been announced that the Queen is inviting 2000 children to join her at a summertime party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate her 80th birthday.

This will be unlike any other party in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, with guests invited to wear jeans and t-shirts as opposed to the stiff, formal morning suits and gowns so usually seen on the Palace lawns.

The Queen herself is said to be "delighted" with the idea of the event. Celebrities will mix with the Royals at the Palace party, the guest list including such names as all-time great children's author Roald Dah's granddaughter, the model Sophie Dahl, chef Jamie Oliver and the boy wizard himself, Harry Potter in the form of actor Daniel Radcliffe.

Speaking about the event, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling said: "I can think of no better way to mark the Queen's 80th birthday than with a party for children at the Palace with some of the best loved characters from children's literature. Harry and I are very much looking forward to attending, particularly as we understand that, despite his alleged membership of the aristocracy, Lord Voldemort has not been invited."

In what sounds to be a similar concept to the highly successful Golden Jubilee classical and pop concerts which took place in the Palace gardens in June 2002, the whole event will be broadcast live on television, with 'golden tickets' being awarded via a website ballot, full details of which can be found at the CBBC website.
