While she may be one of Denmarks most famous exports, Princess Mary has proven
shes still an Aussie at heart.
Joined by her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, the princess has led a sing-song
which saw Australian basketball player Patrick Mills receiving birthday wishes
from the royal couple and his colleagues.
The sportsman was in the midst of celebrating his 20th birthday when
Mary and Frederik popped by to say gday and good luck to Australian atheletes
inside the Olympic village.
While the sports men and women are going for gold in Beijing, the princess herself may
soon find herself celebrated in bronze.
A campaign is underway inside Marys Tasmanian homeland for a statue to be
built in honour of the local girl who made an unlikely transition from Sydney
estate agent to the future queen of Denmark.
Also making the proposed roll of honour are two more Tasmanian greats: cricketers
Ricky Ponting and David Boon.
