It's Official: Kate Gets To Work PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Wednesday, 01 October 2008

She’s more accustomed to appearing on the front pages. Now, though, Kate Middleton has officially got to work, as proven by her appearance in the brochure of her parents’ accessories company for children.

Prince William’s 26-year-old girlfriend takes centre stage in the Party Pieces brochure, standing between her mother, Carole, and another member of the team.

The brochure welcomes prospective clients with the message: "Dear Customer, we’re sure you’ll enjoy shopping with us – the UK’s leading children’s party supplier. With many of our products designed and manufactured exclusively for us, we’ve everything you could possibly need for the best parties ever!"

Debate and not a little controversy has long surrounded what exactly it is that Kate does on a daily basis.

Unfortunately for her, while she may be helping to sell gifts such as products for babies’ first birthdays, she may have some time to wait until she is on the receiving end of presents celebrating her own big day: her wedding.

With Prince William now preparing to embark on a full-time role with the Royal Air Force's Search and Rescue Force, commentators have suggested this may delay William’s engagement to Kate and, indeed, his appearance on the world stage as a full-time working royal.

Kate's familly appears to work like a team. Of course Chelsy's brother and friend were pretty good too working as a team fitting into a pair of pants. That was hilarious. Of all the awful things in the news that didn't get front page that day happy-smiley. When I said wouldn't it be nice if Chelsy's brother wore one of her bikinis, at the time when Kate's brother wore that dress, you really have to be careful what you wish for. Both of them in the pants was a good one.

I did have a point, Kate's family works like a team, no disrespect to the RF of course, a team and a firm work upon different principles.

And of course if I had a choice between being young and foolish and old and wise, I don't know if such a choice would be easy to make.

I think when parents send their kids to boarding school, they expect the school to teach all the inner character things. I went to one, I know what they are like. Don't tell anyone.

Some of you might like to see the new "Vanity Fair" article on Catherine Middleton. It's far lower-key and sane than the material published by the screechy British tabloids. (The "Daily Mail," in particular, makes me laugh, with its claims to know what the Queen and Prince Charles and Prince William have said about this or that, as if anyone truly close to the royal family would be speaking to anyone at the Mail.) The article is available online. Go to Google News and type "Kate Middleton" into the search engine. That is actually the best way to find the latest media information about royals.

As for Middleton herself, I think it's a pity that she didn't go to work for her parents to begin with. No one would have carped if she'd joined the family business; that's what many people born into family businesses do after completing their educations, and it is, after all, what Prince William himself is doing -- or planning to do. So far, Middleton has demonstrated that she's probably quite well-suited to life in the royal family. Her very dedication to the relationship with her boyfriend suggests this. It may not be the standard, 21st-century conception of a relationship; but then, the royal family has always been at least 25 years behind the times, no matter what its members pretend.

Prince Charles, after all, was raised according to a virtually Edwardian conception of his role, despite the fact that he was born in the late 1940's. And that was not his fault. William is a very, very privileged man, and he expects that his girlfriend and wife will adjust to his situation. Middleton is indicating that she can do that. Weirdly enough, she reminds me of the Queen Mother, despite her lack of aristocratic credentials, whereas the aristocratic-by-birth Diana was a page right out of sloppy, self-indulgent, self-help books. Let's hear it for people who deal with their personal problems rather than ignore them, but also deal with them with intelligence, dignity, and privacy.

I don't see why Kate is snubbed for doing exactly the same thing as her sweetheart, namely working for the family business. Doesn't William do the exact same thing? Her parents worked very hard to get this business going, they earned every penny themselves. Whatever Kate does, is made ridiculous. Leave the girl alone!

I like your last comment, Exploora. I think the same way. Now that we have "proof" that Kate has a responsible job, she and her family are knocked down for letting us know. I think that Kate's parents have every right to respond to the kinds of remarks that have been made about their daughter.thumbsup

I think Kate does the catologue, maybe she does all the accounts that go with the sale, a web business is a lot of work, I have a sold a few things on the web. My catalogs is probably nothing like theirs, I trying to connect my accounting to the catologue, they probably have that all done. I know people say then you dont have to do anything then. Actually things don't fly out of the door yet. You have to pack them, get stamps, ship them. They might have one of those stamp machines. I guess Kate will have to go and dig a ditch before she looks like she is working, wear an orange work outfit or something.

Sorry, I don't understand how posing in a photo (and basically cashing in on her position as William's girlfriend to benefit her parents company) is work?
