The Queen’s granddaughter has revealed that she was asked to take part in one of Britain’s most popular reality TV shows.

Zara Phillips made the admission as she enjoyed a front row seat at this weekend’s recording at BBC Television Centre in London of Strictly Come Dancing.

The show, which is internationally known as Dancing With The Stars, has been headline news in the UK this past week due to the withdrawal from the competition of a man who most definitely can’t dance: former political journalist John Sergeant.

Interviewed on the Sunday evening results show on BBC One, Zara – accompanied by her rugby star boyfriend, Mike Tindall – confirmed media speculation that the award-winning royal equestrian was invited to swap the stirrups for her dancing shoes.

According to Zara: "We did get asked but it’s a bad time of year for us, unfortunately. So we have to watch, but we love watching it."
