The Queen has sent a message of sympathy to the people of India following the co-ordinated terrorist attacks which took place across Mumbai on Wednesday.

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace this morning, the Queen says: "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the attacks that occurred in Mumbai."

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who died and with those who have been injured."

At least 130 people were killed when gun men went on the rampage at densely populated areas such as hotels and railway stations.

The terrorists specifically targeted holders of American and British passports.

The unfolding horror in Mumbai (Bombay) continues to be played out on live TV news stations across the globe as Indian security forces continue to try to locate the perpetrators.
