Tis The Season To Be Frugal PDF Print E-mail

Such famed High Street stores as Woolworths and MFI may be about to disappear from the lives of millions of Brits, but it looks as if the royal spin machine is in no danger of coming to a stuttering halt.

Just days after the Queen was reported to have advised her family to be "frugal" in the face of the impending receission, it's reported today that it won't be such a merry Christmas for Princes William and Harry.

According to the Mail on Sunday's Diary columnist Katie Nicholl, the princes have been advised to cut back on their appearances at such nightclubs as Boujis and instead be seen to be doing some charity work.

Although William is currently on active service with the special forces in the Caribbean, he's scheduled to make some appearances in December.

Prince Harry will also be officially busy for at least one day (how Princess Anne must wish her official engagements received as much publicity!).

The 24-year-old prince will be presenting the prizes at the annual Children of Courage Awards at Westminster Abbey on December 10th.

It’s believed both William and Harry will this year join the Queen and other members of the royal family for Christmas Day at Sandringham House in Norfolk.

However, a New Year skiing holiday with Prince Charles may be off the cards, a friend of the princes telling the Mail: "There is a chance that Klosters won’t happen as far as William and Harry are concerned. They are looking at alternatives and it might be they don’t do the big family trip."

While Clarence House is saying only that William and Harry have military commitments and that no firm plans have been made with regards to their forthcoming schedules, the friend continues: "They still want to go skiing but they may give Klosters a miss. The Queen and the rest of the family will also be scaling back on lavish holidays."

Considering she restricts herself to her annual stay at Balmoral Castle, am I the only one left wondering: when did the Queen last have a 'lavish' holiday?

The loyal royal pal concludes: "The boys are aware they can’t be seen to be splashing cash while the rest of the country is struggling. They won’t be running up bills worth thousands in clubs and have been told to be discreet with any holiday plans. If they decide not to go to Klosters, it will be a major thing as they always go."
