Camilla may feel like crying into her cornflakes when she opens the newspapers this morning. For there, in full glorious colour, is an image of the Duchess of Cornwall in a less than dignified pose.![]() And to make matters worse, the unflattering picture is shown alongside images of Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton looking very glamorous. 24-year-old Kate, wearing a fur hat and herringbone coat, makes most of the newspapers today in what can only be a relief to Prince Charles. After all, had his wife and the young lady who is possibly his future daughter-in-law not made such an impression at the races, the news of the court judgment relating to his 'private' journals would surely have enjoyed greater prominence on the front pages. ![]() Significantly, Kate was in the royal party alongside Charles, Camilla and her daughter, Laura Parker Bowles (a rare appearance by one of Camilla's childen in what is, in truth, an officially listed royal engagement). There was no sign of William as he is still undergoing the ordeal that is military training at Sandhurst. Even without her boyfriend of four years to help protect her from the attentions of the media, Kate looked perfectly at home in the Royal Box. ![]() According to the Daily Mail, Camilla has become close to Kate and advises her as to how to cope better with being in the spotlight as a royal girlfriend. A witness to the happy family scene tells the paper: "It was astonishing to see how relaxed and comfortable Kate was around the heir to the throne. It just goes to prove how serious her relationship with William is." ![]() "It also shows how fond Camilla is of her too. After all, it was Camilla's first year of presenting the Gold Cup but she didn't appear to be remotely put out at being overshadowed by Kate's presence." Meanwhile, alongside the claim (previously aired) that William and Kate have Prince Charles' permission to share a room at Highgrove, a friend claims: "A lot of people are betting it won't be long before she is at Buckingham Palace too."
