Charles and Camilla's tour of Egypt, which is being hugely under-reported, has finally made it to at least one front page. The couple have been snapped strolling arm-in-arm, Camilla holding an old-fashioned parasol under her arm. This particular image sees the Prince and his wife looking like extras from a Merchant Ivory film (rather apt considering A Room With A View is Charles's all-time favourite movie). As they head towards their first wedding anniversary on April 9th, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall continue to look as if they are genuinely happy together, smiling for the cameras despite the wearying 95-degree desert heat. ![]() In response to the Spouse of The Year award she's received, Camilla sent her reply to the Oldie awards ceremony back in London, saying (via her mouthpiece, her great friend and author Jilly Cooper) that she is currently on "spousing duties" in "some far-flung corner of the globe". Although back home she is becoming much more of a single entity, attending many engagements on her own, on tour at least Camilla really is very much 'the spouse', helping to keep notoriously pessimistic husband Charles happy and content with his work. Later on Thursday the royal visitors toured a sewing project in Siwa. Camilla took the opportunity to buy a pair of jeans for her daughter, Laura, asking one of the Egyptian embroiderers: "Are these going to Italy? They're so brilliant. My daughter would absolutely love it. Can I buy some? Just tell me how much. Size 12." In response to her request, Camilla was asked a question which surely hasn't needed to be asked for a very long time, the designer shouting to her: "Your home address? Your home address?". ![]() A joker in the entourage surely not a cheeky member of the Press?! replied: "A rather large palace in the centre of London, actually." Camilla apparently didn't pay for the jeans there and then. Perhaps she is now taking after Charles in not handling money (the Prince even goes so far as to have his notes ironed prior to a church service so that they are in perfect condition for the collection plate!). Once at their final destination in Italy, the jeans have a price tag of £150...a huge amount of money for us, maybe, but a drop in the ocean for the Duchess who, according to Richard Kay, is spending around £500 a day (no, that isn't a typing mistake) on make-up alone. The Daily Mail is also reporting that Charles and Camilla have spent a night sleeping in a clay and wood house lit only by candles, with no electricity. Comment on this article
