Well at least Philip didn't swear! PDF Print E-mail

As even they would perhaps acknowledge, the Queen and Prince Philip are not the most tactile people in public. Indeed, the majority of people would be utterly disbelieving if they were told that Philip even HAS a gentle and tactile side to his character. After all, isn’t the Duke of Edinburgh supposed to be the epitomy of  the 'Grumpy Old Men’ depicted by Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon in the movie of the same name? On one very rare occasion some years ago, though, the Queen and her husband publicly showed an intimate side to their relationship….with hilarious results!

The Queen and her husband of nearly 60 years have an undoubtedly strong relationship cemented by years of support for each other. Over the years they have carried out many, many thousands of public appearances together. All of the royals meet more people in one week than the rest of us probably meet in a year (if not longer) and so it is perhaps understandable if, just occasionally, the older generation in particular simply forget where on earth they are and to whom they are supposed to be speaking.

During one particular official engagement the Queen, never one to normally complain about her lot, simply couldn’t hide her weariness and so, as so often in her life, she turned to Philip for support.

"I'm just so tired, I think I'll keel over at any moment", the Queen complained.

Philip, a man with a reputation for telling people to, in essence, ‘pull themselves together’ showed his gentle side by encouraging his wife on, telling her: "Never mind my little petal, you'll soon be tucked up with the bunnies".

Seconds later a tirade of laughter broke out all around the building. Not surprisingly the Queen and Philip looked momentarily puzzled before the most awful realisation dawned: Elizabeth and Philip were visiting a school for the deaf and therefore almost every single person in the room was a lip reader and had therefore ‘heard’ every word spoken by the embarrassed monarch and her equally mortified husband!

Holy Cramoli! Jeezopete! What a cute story. I never really liked Prince Phillip because he always is such a termpermental, fuddy-duddy and I thought their marriage was lifeless & sterile, but now I see the affection he has for his lady.

Oh what a hoot!!!!I jeez I laughed so hard I had to run to the ladies room! That was good. He reminded me of my grandfather. He liked to tease my grandma. Unfortunately the jokes were always sleezy...and they were in their 80's!
