Princess Beatrice Celebrates An Election Win PDF Print E-mail

"If Sarah has taught Beatrice anything, it's that she has to earn her own way. She won't be expecting any free handouts. I could easily see her going the way of Helen Windsor and becoming the face of a fashion house."

Beatrice wouldn't be the first member of the House of Windsor to study in America, although she would be the most high profile.

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent's glamorous daughter, Lady Gabriella ('Ella') Windsor graduated from Brown University, Rhode Island, in 2004. It was here that Lady Ella first met her boyfriend, Aatish Taseer, the handsome son of a locally prominent Indian journalist.

In response to speculation Beatrice may attend University in the States, a friend of the York family says: "America is her mother's second home now and Beatrice loves the idea of studying there. She hangs out at the Manhattan apartment her mother rents and loves the fact she can pretty much come and go as she pleases without having to worry about the paparazzi.''

But all this is for the future. For the time being at least Beatrice will be devoting herself to her studies and to her new school role, which she took up just this week.

In her capacity as Head Girl, the level-headed Princess will be expected to oversee a group of eight senior girls who supervise homework sessions as well as religious services at the school's private chapel.

in the long term, however, Beatrice does have one wish: to walk down a street without, in her words, her "BGs" (bodyguards).

Only then, in her eyes, would America truly be the "land of the free".

I just wanted to say congrats to Beatrice and her parents. I know how proud they must feel. I am a mother of a very dylexic daughter and yesterday she was made Prefect of her school. She is also 17. I can honestly say that it is a very proud feeling. It still hasnt quite sunk in, to her or me. It has been a long tough road but every reward, like this, is major, amazing and emotional. I still havent stopped crying! To all parents of dyslexic kids keep helping, keep talking and dont give up, the rewards, when they come are huge!!
