AUDIO: Charles, Camilla, William & Harry Celebrate At The Tower PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Sunday, 21 May 2006
The concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Prince's Trust ended tonight with a heartfelt speech from Prince Charles in which he thanked all those involved with his Trust over the past three decades.

Accompanied by Camilla, William and Harry, the heir to the throne walked onto the stage at the Tower of London to huge applause (plus the obligatory female shouts for William and Harry, of course!) for a speech which drew to a close a three-and-a-half hour musical extravaganza, broadcast live throughout the UK.

As you can hear below, the Prince got into the spirit of the occasion, joking about the glow wands handed out to members of the audience and the fact that "this is the moment when I wish I could sing", to which William began shaking his head, as if truly horrified by the idea.

On what was undoubtedly one of the most high profile appearances since she married the Prince of Wales, Camilla grinned broadly and proudly as she stood on the stage with her royal step-sons on her left, listening to her husband's speech and laughing and applauding at all the right moments.

Saturday evening's live ITV1 broadcast also incorporated lengthy extracts from the first joint TV interview with the three Princes by popular British duo Ant and Dec.

There was one striking aspect of the interview: the fact Prince Harry — the so-called 'rebel' of the family — came across as the shyer of the two Wales boys.

Although both the royal brothers enjoyed some verbal jousting with Ant and Dec, the conversation tended to be dominated a little by Prince Charles — after all, the interview was to celebrate his Trust.

However, perhaps unexpectedly, the vivacious Harry we've come to know and love was much quieter than usual, happy perhaps to allow his father to take centre stage. In contrast, though, William was really quite boisterous — or simply more confident? — frequently showing flashes of his witty and sharp sense of humour, one he has undoubtedly inherited from both Charles and Diana.

This isn't to say Harry didn't speak — he teased his father a little, as we've seen him do in the past, and joined in with the lighthearted joshing of the interviewers.

It was simply a surprise to see how much quieter he came across in comparison to William. After all, we've been told for many years that Harry is the "rebel" whilst William is "shy". Not that Harry was about to light up a cigarette and take a swig from a beer can here, of course!

Whilst celebrating the 30 years of The Prince's Trust, tonight's gig was also a fundraiser, with the public asked to contribute to help make sure the achievements of one of Britain's biggest charities continue for a long time to come.

If you would like to contribute, please visit the official Prince's Trust 30th Birthday website for further details.

Don't forget! Ant and Dec Meet The Princes will be broadcast in full at 12.45pm on Sunday on ITV in the UK and, according to one of our visitors (a huge thanks to Tanya for alerting us all to this), 7pm EST on NBC in America on Sunday evening (repeated on the Today show on Monday morning).

My goodness, Kathy, you and I do seem to agree on many topics!

Frankly, I could live without seeing photos of Camilla, but on the other hand it is kind of interesting to see how she compares to Diana.....Sorry, NO comparison.

How I would love to see what Diana would look like now....

Very worthy cause...very helpful for many young people.

My feeling is still that camilla should not be anywhere. Hidden in a tower perhaps, but not anywhere in public. I will never be in any way fond of this woman. She has caused too much damage.
