Event: The Unseen Royals: Royal Offspring At The National Service of Thanksgiving For The Queen Location: St. Paul's Cathedral, London Date: Thursday 15th June 2006 There's so much royal coverage dominated by Charles, Camilla, William and Harry (in particular) that I thought it would be interesting to see some of the members of the House of Windsor who are rarely seen and, in the case of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, rarely if ever receive any acknowledgement of the work they've carried out for many decades before the likes of Camilla and, yes, Diana appeared on the royal scene. The national service of thanksgiving which took place in honour of the Queen's 80th birthday saw more than 25 members of the Royal Family turn out for the event. I came across the following images today which, sadly, weren't available from Alpha when I uploaded the day's highlights last night, but nevertheless it'd be sad if these went unnoticed, so rare is it to see several members of the family. Please remember to zoom in via your mouse (if applicable) to enjoy the full high and large quality of all of our images: Viscountess Serena Linley arriving at St. Paul's with her husband of almost 13 years, Princess Margaret's only son, Viscount David Linley. At the time of their marriage on October 8th 1993, many media wags suggested Serena was marrying beneath herself, the former Miss Stanhope being the daughter of one of the richest men in Britain, Viscount Petersham, who owns over £100 million worth of land in Kensington, London. Following the announcement of her engagement to Princess Margaret's son in May 1993, even the Sunday Times felt the need to ask: 'What's a nice girl like you doing marrying into a family like this?', Fleet Street's finest having tried but failed to unearth any scandal about the royal bride-to-be. The
Duke and Duchess of Gloucester leaving St. Paul's Cathedral following
the service. Born Prince Richard, the Duke unexpectedly became heir to his father, Prince Henry, following the tragic death of his elder brother, Prince William,
when he crashed the plane he was piloting in 1972. Richard became Duke of Gloucester on the death of his father in 1974.The biggest 'scandal' surrounding the Queen's cousin is his tendency to pick up speeding tickets due to his driving too fast. In recent months the Prince has been walking with crutches after crashing his motorbike. Lady Davina Lewis (nee Windsor). The oldest of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester's two daughters, Davina once dated Rupert Young, the older brother of pop star Will Young who shot to fame after winning the ITV reality TV series Pop Idol. It was wrongly reported at the time that the royal girlfriend was actually Davina's sister, Rose.In July 2004, at the age of 26, Davina married Maori builder and surfer Gary Lewis, becoming the step-mother to his then 12-year-old son Ari from a previous relationship. Davina made her own way in the world, far from her family's 11-room apartments at Kensington Palace, at one point working as a waitress as well as enjoying a stint at The Times newspaper where, as she later recalled, she "made lots of tea". Davina hates the attention her royal status offers her, preferring to enjoy a quiet life away from the spotlight. Lady Rose Windsor, the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.Eyebrows were raised in royal circles when along with Davina, the utterly "blameless" Gloucester children to whose names there's never been the least bit of scandal, were not invited to the wedding of Charles and Camilla in April 2005, the Prince and the future Duchess of Cornwall having personally drawn up the guest list. A very rare image as several of the most low profile members of the House of Windsor leave St. Paul's together.Especially rare is the appearance (on the far right) of Lord Nicholas Windsor, who is chatting to his older brother George, the Earl of St. Andrews. Nicholas is something of an enigma, his rarely appearing in public and little actually being known about his life. A charity worker who has suffered his own ordeals in life he's reportedly suffered bouts of severe depression and an eating disorder Nicholas followed in the footsteps of his mother, Katherine, by converting to Catholicism, resulting in his renouncing his albeit distant right to the throne. In this he is like his brother, George. The Earl of St. Andrews was forced to remove himself from the line of succession when he married Catholic divorcee Sylvana Tomaselli in 1988. Nicholas and George are the sons of the Duke and Duchess of Kent and brothers of the more high profile Lady Helen Taylor (nee Windsor). At the front of the image is Marina Mowatt, the young lady who caused a major scandal within Britain by becoming the first member of the family to fall pregnant outside marriage. The daughter of Princess Alexandra and her late husband, Sir Angus Ogilvy, Marina is at last very much back in the Royal fold having been exiled for some years following her pregnancy 'bombshell' (as it was deemed back in 1988), following which she went on TV to 'tell all' about her apparently dysfunctional family before marrying her lover, Paul Mowatt. Ironically enough, despite having been one of his closest friends and realtives in her youth, as well as being one of his 32 Godchildren, Marina was another royal relation who was left off the guest list for the April 2005 St. George's Chapel wedding of the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles.
