The royal arrivals at last night's party at Elton John's Windsor home have certainly caused a few raised eyebrows, including via our Comments section.

One of the world's most famous and successful musicians, Sir Elton John has enjoyed an enduring friendship with many members of the House of Windsor, including the Queen herself.

On his relationship with Her Majesty, who knighted him in 1998, Elton once quipped: "We get on fine...two Queens together."

In 1971, the Queen took to the dance floor at the 21st birthday party of her only daughter, Princess Anne. Delighting onlookers, most of whom were family and friends, hence her relaxed manner, Her Majesty laid her handbag on the floor before enjoying a dance with the famously flamboyant star.

The unlikely duo were once again reportedly spotted dancing together at Charles and Diana's pre-wedding party in July 1981, an event at which the Queen was alleged to have worn a 'Kiss Me Quick' hat!

So close is he to members of the Royal Family, Elton — who once quipped: "I never go to nightclubs now. I'd feel like the Queen Mother. I'd rather go to an antiques show or read a book" — was one of Prince Andrew's companions on his stag night in 1986, joining other famous faces and friends of the soon-to-be Duke of York, including Scottish comedian Billy Connolly and TV presenter David Frost.
