Elton's performance at Diana's funeral elicited an interesting reaction from one member of the Royal Family. As respected royal author Robert Lacey noted in his bestselling book Royal: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II: "The Queen Mother got quite excited about the prospect of listening to Elton John."

Although close to Diana, Sir Elton is also a friend and ally of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. Elton's boyfriend, David Furnish, attended the St. George's Chapel blessing which followed the royal couple's registry office wedding on 9th April 2005.

In December 2005 Elton and David took advantage of the new Government laws allowing same-sex couples to wed, becoming one of the first gay couples in Britain to marry with a private ceremony at the very same Windsor registry office which had previously welcomed Charles and Camilla through its doors.

Elton himself is a regular face at charitable functions at which the Prince and his second wife are guests of honour, Elton admiring the future King's work with The Prince's Trust.

Attending a celebrity packed party inside St. James's Palace in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Trust, Elton spoke of his admiration for the heir to the throne, saying: "He does so many good things for so many young people. His heart is in the right place and we say yes unconditionally to any of his requests because we know that the money is going to the right place."

"I think he is a very good man with a very good heart and he wants to help young people have a future. He gets a lot of individual pleasure from his role."
